Native/Indigenous poets are invited to share at an open mic event with featured poet c'ic'áyx̣ʷmu Rachel Sullivan-Owens.

In honor of Indigenous Peoples Day, join us to celebrate poetry created and presented by Native poets. Featured poet c'ic'áyx̣ʷmu Rachel Sullivan-Owens will begin the event with a reading, followed by an open mic for Indigenous community members to share their poetry.

This event will be held at ʔaʔkʷustəŋáw̕txʷ House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse.

About the Featured Poet
c'ic'áyx̣ʷmu Rachel Sullivan-Owens is a local Indigenous poet and author from the nəxʷsƛ̕áy̕əm̕ people, enrolled with the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe in Sequim. Most recently published in The Yellow Medicine Review, she dedicates herself to her family, her culture, her community, and her ongoing education. Rachel’s work focuses on many themes, including the 2 Spirit-LGBTQI+ experience, the reclamation of Klallam Language, and the nuances of life as a mother, wife, artist, and teacher.

About ʔaʔkʷustəŋáw̕txʷ House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse
ʔaʔkʷustəŋáw̕txʷ House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse is the first longhouse built on a community college campus in the nation. The vision of the Longhouse to be a center for cultural expression and educational achievement for all students and community members was woven together by Peninsula College and six Sovereign Nations: Hoh, Quileute, Makah, Port Gamble S’Klallam, Jamestown S’Klallam, and Lower Elwha Klallam.

Event Parking
For closest parking access, participants and attendees are welcome to use the parking lot on the south side of the soccer field and on the west side of the Allied Health & Early Childhood Education Building (Bldg. K). Parking is available in any yellow space after 5pm. Follow signs to the event. Two accessible parking spaces are located directly in front of ʔaʔkʷustəŋáw̕txʷ House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse, and the building has a ramped entrance.
